Weekends

This weekend was long and short all at the same time. Friday was a full work day for both J&I, but then Saturday we hit the ground running. Had errands to run & then we headed out to good old Flower Mound to celebrate a very belated 60th birthday to Scotty Potty. Z&C came into town and we (really, Zak) cooked dinner and drank too much wine. Or maybe that was just me, but that's neither here nor there.

Sunday was a long anticipated day. Even before G was born, there were a lot of serious discussions that J&I had and among them was religion/church/etc. I am not going to pretend that we go to church every week. We don't. We don't go every other week. I would say we rarely go. Ever. However, that doesn't mean that we aren't believers or that God/Jesus aren't in our lives. It has always been important to me that Grayson was baptized. Growing up Catholic, this is something that I believe in and wanted for G. Jarrett was also baptized as a Methodist. After months of talking about it, we finally chose a date. So this past Sunday G was baptized in the same church Jarrett was many years ago.

I didn't snap many photos, but our nearest and dearest friends and family were there to make it even more special. Directly after he was sprinkled the pastor showed him off to the congregation while they sang "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands" I mean, waterworks, yall. The sweetest moment for this mama.

Weekend Things: Adventures with Auntie & Uncle J

A month or two back Amber & Jordan were talking about their upcoming trip to Mexico, I was a glass or two of wine in, and volunteered to watch the babes for a few of the nights to help alleviate BB&Papa. The next morning, I may have wondered if it was a good idea, but I am so glad we volunteered. It had been far too long since the twins had spent the night & I have never had Baker overnight, so it was LOOOOONG overdue!

Bree and Roy brought the chicas over on Thursday evening. It was a chill night, with dinner and a movie. The littles were down early and the girls went down not long after - easy, peasy lemon squeezy.

All the kids slept amazingly! Hallelujah!

Friday, J went to work & I sent G to school so it would only be 3 on 1. We hung out at the house Baker took a long nap, so the girls and I colored, gave them a bath & then we headed out to the park. Uncle J & G came home and we had a "concert" and dance party. Followed by dinner & Despicable Me then bedtime!

It was an early Saturday morning - G was up by 5:30, Girls by 6 and sweet Baker waited until 7 to get up. Early nap times for the littles and then hung out with the Cabreras, stopped by my parents & went to the Masseys to get the girls into bed so when Mom & Dad got home they could rest up from their trip.

Uncle J was wiped out. Snored the whole way home that night.

Sunday was full of church, naps & laziness.

It was so fun to have the girls. Mad props to mamas out there with broods of 4 or more. I am not sure I could do it every day. G seemed to like going back to "only child status" but every time he sees a picture on my phone of the girls his face lights up. So I think he misses them mucho already. I do too. Those sweet girls have had my heart since before they were born.

Let's Eat: 10 Months

2 months until I officially say my baby isn't a baby anymore. Insane.

Grayson is so much fun in general and I will say the stage we are in right now is by far my favorite so far. He's so with it, curious and happy. I have really enjoyed his love for food and willingness to try anything. I briefly touched on his preferences for foods in his 10 month update, but he definitely is starting to decide what he likes, or what he likes more than other things. I used to put everything I had fixed on his tray at one time, but now I place things that I know he likes, but maybe wouldn't be his favorite item in the meal on his tray first and then add the more "likeable" items as we go. And don't even think about pulling the yogurt out before he's had a chance to eat everything else, because it will be game over until that yogurt is all.gone.

Schedule:
6:30 am/7:30 am: Wake, 4ounce bottle,
banana/Plum mish mosh breakfast pouch, get ready for school
9:00 am: Snack (puffs, fruit, or wafer cookie) & 6 ounce bottle
11:00 am: Lunch (meat, vegetable & fruit) & 6 ounce bottle
3:00 pm: Snack (puffs, fruit or wafer cookie) & 6 ounce bottle
6:00pm/6:30 pm: Dinner (meat/eggs/fruit/vegetable/yogurt)
6:45 pm/7:15 pm: 1-4 ounces of bottle

The schedule hasn't changed much. We have taken the morning and evening bottles down to 4 ounces each. On the weekends he seems to not eat all (3) 6ounce bottles, so I may defrost less than that over the weekends to continue to stretch out my supply. This past weekend we did utilize formula for the first time. Since the frozen breastmilk is only good for 24 hours, we were unable to bring enough for the weekend. I purchased Plum Organics formula and he took it without any issues and once we got home gave him the breastmilk and he went right back to it without a problem. He makes life easy, yall.

Every Sunday I grocery shop and spend part of the day preparing G's food for the week. Although we give him a lot of whatever we are eating, especially when we go out to eat, I still make certain things specially for him. It makes it easier to do so since I have to send food to school for lunches as well, but I do try to give him new foods as well as oldies that we know he likes. Generally I cook a marinated chicken breast, cube and steam fruit and vegetables, sometimes cook pasta, and then any random recipes I want to try.

For school I send 3-4 small containers - 1 of veggie burger/different meats, 1 of vegetables (several options), 1 of fruit (several options) and sometimes I will send one of plain pasta noodles with parm cheese. I also frequently send homemade pouches with a mix of a fruit or veg and some oatmeal, bananas, avocados or the mini wholly guacamole packs. I also send teething crackers, puffs, yogurt melts and other toddler snack items in bulk every few weeks. I feel like I buy a ton of different snack items, but I would hate for him to get stuck in a rut or not experience new foods and flavors.

As always, I am scouring the internet for new food ideas for him, so if you have good ones, please share!

Weekend Things

This past weekend was an extra long one for us. One of my very best friends from growing up got married, so we headed up to Chicago on Thursday to see family and enjoy the festivities.

I wont lie, I was scared to fly with G this go around. He's mobile these days, not quite a snoozy as he used to be, a lot more vocal, and he was so good last time, it left a lot for him to live up to. Luckily this Mama was prepared: Snacks, Milk, books, iPad loaded with Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and my Bose Headphones, done and done. It always feels good when everyone compliments you and your baby when you land.

Our first stop was Portillo's, per usual. One of maybe two trips we took there in four days. G had his first hot dog (don't judge!) and some itlian beef. It never disappoints. Ever.

That night we visited with my cousins and aunt & uncle. G had a blast meeting all of his extended family.

Friday we lounged around the hotel all morning before going on a little tour of my childhood. J wanted to see where I grew up so we drove around town while G napped.

The old house I grew up in... its changed quite a bit, but I will say the grey update makes it look much better.

That night we hung out with my other aunt, uncle and cousin. I did a terrible job documenting our time with them! Saturday we stopped by my grandparents house who have now both passed away and took some pictures of G on the front step and in the booth that we grew up in (dad and me).

Saturday Night we were off to Scott and Kim's wedding. It was a perfect day & a beautiful wedding! There was some down time between the ceremony and the reception, so we pre-gammed with my family & G

Sunday morning we had breakfast with the fam and headed off to the airport. G was an angel baby and slept the whole trip home and let both Mama and Daddy sleep too. ::insert praise emoji here::
